Thanks for your help. I have submitted my application to Lawndale Art Center and now the waiting begins. From what I was told, there are around 40 applicants as of Saturday 14 May, and the deadline is Monday at 5PM.
The photography exhibition, Observations of The Moon, explores Mesoamerican deities. By using pre-Hispanic symbolism as metaphor to reveal our humanity through characteristics such as strength, these images and installations reinterpret the people, activities and objects of their everyday life to engage the viewers to see the edge between the real and the surreal. The photographs navigate perceptions of identity; explore color space, emotion and family from my uniquely Mexican-American subjectivity.
This work draws from a varied range of anthropologic, geographic, and religious sources. The handmade costumes, headdresses, adornments, accessories, ritual dance movements, and body paintings prompt the viewer to analyze gender, role, and identity, to explore the central role, these identities played in ancient Maya life, as well as, their effect on present day pop culture
